New Blu Album This Summer

Coincidentally, just a day after getting a mention on the Sour Patch Kids Remix, Blu announces he is planning to drop a new (untitled) album Summer of '10. Hit here for the tentaive tracklist. For those who don't know Blu, Below the Heavens (with amazing production by Exile) is possibly the most underrated, under the radar rap album in the past few years. Check the vid below.

This was recorded 2 years ago but Maino’s camp had the ingenious idea of putting it out now, given this Rosa Acosta situation.

Song of the Week: Donwill feat. Ca$he & the Park - Love Junkie (Wall Paper Remix)

Song is Hands down the best i've heard and it's only tuesday! I had to post it as my song of the week. If he's smart RW will comply.
To celebrate his upcoming tour of Asia for Nike, Mick Boogie is putting out a mixtape based on Nike’s “Changemakers” campaign.

There are a lot of people calling themselves rappers these days… but how many of them are changing the game? Calling on his friends from all over the hip-hop spectrum, Mick compiled several new and unreleased songs from your favorite “change making” artists, including Big Pooh of Little Brother, U-N-I, The Kickdrums, CurT@!n$ and more.

Here’s the first leak from the mixtape (dropping on Thursday) from Donwill of Tanya Morgan who’s hot off the hells of the release of his solo album,Don Cusack in High Fidelity, as well as the accompanying Laura’s Tape mixtape. Don’t forget to accessorize.

Sour Patch Kids Remix

One week later after Seard Foie Gras with Quince and Cranberry, and this song is still getting solid play on my iPod. Talib delivers as usual, and the severely underappreciated Blu gives a great verse. Travis Barker did a great job remixing the beat, and the hook shines even brighter.

Underrated Song of the Week: Prowler 2

This is a couple weeks old, but it flew under the radar. Unrelenting beat, and showcase verses by Elechanukkah (swagger like no other), Pretty Flaco (flow is unmatchable), and Jean Grae (a girl that can rap? Damn). Joell Ortiz is on it too, but he sounds like a whiney bitch, so skip that.

On a side note, debut mixtape from Robert Wadlow, the Robert Wadlow LP, will be dropping on June 1, in the year of the Lord 2010. This is a couple years in the working, and guarantees to be a refreshing release in a world saturated with generic sound.

Puma X Noel Clarke Present: 4321 The Movie

PUMA's excited for the global release of Universal Pictures' movie, 4321 on June 4, 2010. Be on the lookout for actors Emma Roberts, Noel Clarke, Tamsin Egerton, and Ophelia Lovibond sporting PUMA on the big screen. Anyone else think Emma Roberts is damn sexy? hermione granger sexy?

Dj Quiz tosses everyone a new mixtape: Quiz knows a mixtape

I've been on a lot these artists for a while. if you've followed the Hardey Blog since day one you'll know one of my very first posts was of Shawn Chrystopher, signed to Elitaste (Wale's record label). Furthermore, Skyzoo knows how to make your toes tap and head bob as good as anyone. Props to people over at Hot 97 for presenting the masses with a mixtape full of talent. New Erykah Badu Video- "Window Seat"

New video from the classic soul girl and Jay Elec bride Erykah Badu. Looks to be inspired in part by the JFK assassination. Keeps getting taken off most sites, and looks to only be available on her site. Good song, trippy video.

Yusek Ft. Chromeo - So Down

Another disco jam, this time from France’s Yuksek. Although the word means “high” in Turkish, Pierre-Alexandre Busson (unmistakably French) claims he just liked the way the word sounded, or rather how it didn’t sound like everything else in the electronic world. But what is in a name anyway? This fellow has put out some pretty great music of his own alongside some nice remixes for some pretty high profile artists, which you can conveniently find on his website.

This track, “So Down”, has been around for a while, but it’s still tres super. It features Chromeo, so it automatically has some pretty solid street cred, but one the song really begins after the harsh and abrupt intro, the funky disco keys hold up all on their own. And it’s a pretty confident song lyrically, too, perhaps bordering on arrogant. “I’ve seen you walk in front of me/That body’s makin’ it hard to breathe/Better run and tell the guy you’re seein’/When he’s gone I’m doin’ it better.” But, really, isn’t that “confidence” sort of what electronic music is all about?

Wu Massacre Drops March 30

The release from Ghostface, Raekwon the Chef, and the M-E-T-H-O-D Man drops tomorrow. Most reviews so far have said it is classic Wu, but lacking in the time department (not one track over 3:25). The album as an official cover and three collector's editions, the illest of which is the Meth one above. Hopefully this lives up to expectations. Check the link below for a preview of what's in store.

I Need A Dollar Remix- Poe Picasso

This instrumental is one of the nicest I've heard in a while. It's the theme song for "How to Make It In America," Cudi's show on HBO that has turned out to be surprisingly good. A few guys have tried to use this beat, but Poe Picasso has the best product out of any I've heard so far.

The Fray Cover Kanye West's Heartless

So The Fray covered Kanye’s Heartless and I do honestly think they’ve done a good job with it. It’s definitely worth a listen to hear a real singer take the lyrics, get rid of the autotune and add that bit of soul that the song calls for. I can appreciate Kanye’s original and the whole autotune concept of 808s and Heartbreaks but The Fray have stepped it up just a little more with this cover.

Kanye West "Street Lights" - Video By Spike Jonze & Jonathan Bensimon

Normally I wouldn't post anything from 808's but the fact that Spike Jonze and Jonathan Bensimon got together on this is a great collaboration. It continues Kanye's work as a modern-day Meriweather Lewis, bridging the gap between the art world and hip-hop culture. You think the Clipse would've had Kaws do their album cover if Kanye wasn't around?

Room 121 co-signs Hawa

Hawa have taken this modern classic and turned it into a soulful retro classic in a way that that makes “D.A.N.C.E.” feel fresh for the first time in years. A fantastic cover. This song will definitely be on the summer playlists.

New Cisco Adler

Cisco Adler is the singing white dude that is always with Shwayze and now he is venturing out on his own radio-friendly pop adventure. Lil’ John is back in full effect dropping his spastic growls over this glossy beach-party beat. Guaranteed to be heard in the background of the next Girls Gone Wild video.

Shepard Fairey "May Day" Exhibition at Deitch Projects

Shepard Fairey will be exhibiting new works at Deitch Projects from May 1st in an exhibition entitled “May Day”.

“Deitch Projects is pleased to present May Day, an exhibition of new work by Shepard Fairey, as its final project. Titled not only in reference to the day of the exhibition’s opening, the multiple meanings of May Day resonate throughout the artist’s new body of work. Originally a celebration of spring and the rebirth it represents, May Day is also observed in many countries as International Worker’s Day or Labor Day, a day of political demonstrations and celebrations coordinated by unions and socialist groups. “Mayday” is also the distress signal used by pilots, police and firefighters in times of emergency.”

The End of the Mayer Hawthorne Tour Means new Nikki Jean Songs

for those of you who live under the rocks in the Grand Canyon and didn't cop Lupe Fiasco's The Cool, Nikki Jean sang the chorus and starred alongside mr. F&F in the video for "Hip-Hop Saved my Life." She's been on tour with my favorite R&B singer, hawthorne, but now she's free to start using that legendary voice again. I'm partial to Nikki because she's a very genuine person and you can tell she's in the industry so her voice can be heard.

Mash Up Germany Combines all the Bands from my Formative Years

Mash Up Germany has managed to make me a little excited with this Matisyahu x John Lennon x Blink 182 x Gentleman x Bob Marley mash up. All these bands played a huge part in my musical styling so while I tend to focus on Jam bands and rap, I had to post this little ditty before it went out of style to post little ditties.

the Return of Angus and Julia Stone

Angus & Julia Stone (or “Angus AND Julia Stone”) are a brother/sister duo from Australia that craft some great indie pop tracks. You can’t help but tap your toes and hum along. No, really, you can’t.
I especially like the great “delivery” of both their vocals. Maybe it is just the unique sounding voice of these siblings – with Angus on “Big Jet Plane” and Julia on “And The Boys” (which is also a favourite of mine). Like it a lot, enjoy.

Bassnectar - Magical World Feat. Nelly Furtado

I've been really into dubstep lately, particularly the rusko remix I posted way back when. Nelly Furtado's voice has the ability to move along with both a upbeat, light melody to a bass-heavy, slow one.

The Get By - NYC Skaters

Radcollector puts us on to “The Get By”, an HBO documentary about skateboarding in New York City. “HBO has been pushing the hell out of their series “How to Make it in America” and as part of their efforts have just dropped this mini-documentary, “The Get By” about being a skater and making it in the industry in the dopest city in the world. It’s impossible to front on all the ill footage of NYC skatespots and interviews with Billy Rohan, Gino Iannucci, Anthony Pappalardo, Zered Basset, Todd Jordan and many more, but you can’t help but think it’s a little suspect that HBO produced this very real documentary just to hype a fake show. Maybe they should make “The Get By” a series and drop the other one.”
